Module Indicative Content
This module offers you the opportunity to explore the area of surface treatments and decorative applications for ceramic vessel forms. You will have the opportunity to learn about ceramic printing processes as well as methods of decorating that are primarily intended for application to unfired clay. You will be encouraged to combine methods and to experiment with firing techniques. The images that you will use to decorate forms will come from visual research on individually agreed themes.

Carry out independent research and design developments.
Independent Investigation of surface treatments and glaze qualities.
Produce a body of finished decorated ceramic work.
Module Additional Assessment Details
An individual presentation of work carried out during the module that includes a series of ceramic pieces, visual research and sketchbooks showing the development of research material and design ideas. [Learning Outcomes 1, 2 and 3]

A written account of the research work and the practical carried out (800 words) detailing the research methods [Learning Outcome 4]

To achieve a pass in this module (grade 4 or above)
You must submit all the assessment tasks. Your practical work should demonstrate a basic level of competence in ceramic making techniques and your research work should show that you can use more than one method to find information on a topic. The presentation of your work should be clear and effective.

To achieve the highest grade (grade 13 or above) your practical work should demonstrate individuality in the interpretation of the brief as well as appropriate and skilled use of techniques. The research work should show a degree of understanding of the project and the ability to use visual material to illustrate a personal analytical response to the project. The presentation of the work should be clear and appropriate and should enhance the communication of your ideas.
