Exam 1: An exam of length 3 hours plus 10 minutes reading time, weighted at 50% covering Learning Outcomes 1, 2 and elements of 3.
Exam 2: An exam of length 3 hours plus 10 minutes reading time, weighted at 50% covering Learning Outcomes 3 and 4.
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The module aims to build on the basics of accounting previously covered, to develop students’ knowledge and skills in understanding and applying international accounting standards. The students will gain an understanding and an ability to apply the theoretical framework of accounting and also be able to prepare a statement of comprehensive income, statement of changes in equity, a statement of financial position and a statement of cash flows which conform with international accounting standards. The students will also study business combinations, the concepts and principles of a group of companies and the preparation of consolidated financial statements including an associate company.
When studied as part of the BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance, BA (Hons) Accounting and Business, Two Year BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance, the successful completion of this module may lead to an exemption from a professional accountancy qualification – for up-to-date information on accreditation and exemptions please contact the Award Leader.

Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module is based around students committing a total of 300 hours of activities towards achieving the learning outcomes. These will be split between 78 hours of direct contact with a tutor and 222 hours of directed, guided and self-study, together with preparation for and completion of the assessment tasks. Learning support material will be provided for the module.
The module will draw upon a mixture of activities including lectures, web-based activities, case study analysis, relevant videos and in-class discussions, individual and group problem solving and self-directed learning.
