Module Indicative Content
The module will start with a discussion on what constitutes a small or medium size enterprise (SME). You will learn the economic theories of entrepreneurship; identify the characteristics of the entrepreneur/intrapreneur and how these can contribute to individual or organisational success. Consideration will also be given to how to manage and sustain growth once a business is up and running. Symptoms of business failure will also be discussed. Furthermore, the module will cover a selection of approaches for evaluating a business idea; launching a business; financing a business; the role of venture capital finance; the marketing strategy; E commerce; human resource management; pricing strategy and financial management. The module concludes with the production of a credible business plan.

Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module is based around students committing a total of 150 hours of activities towards achieving the learning outcomes. These will be split between 39 hours of direct contact with a tutor and 111 hours of directed, guided and self-study, together with preparation for and completion of the assessment tasks. Learning support material will be provided for the module.
The module will draw upon a mixture of activities including lectures, web-based activities, case study analysis, relevant videos and in-class discussions, individual and group problem solving and self-directed learning.
