MODULE ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
Assessment 1:
Research file including notes from lecture series and any other sources of referenced gathered (10%)
Academic poster: based on an art/design movement from 20th Century, including summary of movement, key practitioners, illustrations and a quote, referenced using the Harvard Style LO1, LO2, LO3
Assessment 2:
1000 word essay, based on how artists/designers are influenced by the times they are living in. LO1, LO2, LO3
MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module is about the way that any professional art or design practice is informed by the work and ideas of other people and other times. You will learn about how and why other artists and designers do the things they do, and will understand how your own work can benefit from this knowledge. You will attend a series of lectures and will take careful notes, writing them up in a coherent form following each lecture. You will carry out independent research to find out more about aspects of the lectures that have interested you. You will undertake at least one study visit and will use it as the basis for further research.
In Semester 1 You will produce an Academic Poster that demonstrates your research and understanding of an Art and/or Design Movement, you will include key illustrations and quotations, which will be referenced using the Harvard system. In Semester 2 You will produce an illustrated essay that outlines your personal interests as Artist and Designers and that starts to describe your area of interest in relation to your own work and the degree pathways within Art and Design.

Ever wondered why artists and designers make work in a certain way?
This module presents the key developments in art, design, photography, illustration and comic art during the last century. We will look at how major world events and technological advances have influenced these changes. You will be gently introduced to academic processes, essential to degree course study and develop skills and confidence in this area.
