Module Additional Assessment Details
1. Video recorded negotiation exercise (accompanied by brief preparation notes) which will assess learning outcomes 1, 3 & 6 - 25%

2. A written advocacy preparation report (500 words) which will assess learning outcomes 4 & 7 - 25%

3. Video recorded interview, accompanied by preparation notes (500 words) (learning outcomes 1, 2, & 5) 50%

Students must achieve a pass in all 3 sections of the assessment in order to pass the module
Module Learning Strategies
Whole Group Sessions ? a series of participatory workshops will be used to disseminate information on interviewing, negotiation and advocacy skills. The workshops will be used to encourage students to practise and develop interviewing, negotiation and advocacy skills. Role play and feedback sessions will provide opportunities to analyse, appraise, develop and demonstrate interviewing, negotiation and advocacy techniques ? 22 HOURS.

Independent Study ? this will consist of research into, and preparation for, the work to be undertaken in workshops and end of semester assessment ? 128 HOURS.

Development of skills
The development of intellectual skills is encouraged by the whole group sessions and is the independent study for the module where students will be expected to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the key theoretical concepts underpinning this module. The application of these concepts will be assessed in the video recorded interview and in the prepared reports.

Communication Skills are developed throughout this module with an emphasis upon oral communication skills which will be assessed in the video recorded interview.

Team working skill are developed through the simulation exercises, and assessed in the paired video recorded interview.

Module Special Admissions Requirements
This module is available only to Diploma in Advice Work and Law and LLB in Advice Work students who have passed 'Interviewing Skills'.

This module is designed to provide advice work students with the necessary knowledge and skills of interviewing clients, and of negotiation and advocacy. Attention will be focussed on:
