Module Details
Module Indicative Content
This module aims to provide students with a thorough knowledge and understanding of some of the key concepts of specialist Money Advice. This second level module builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired in the level four Welfare Benefits and Debt module. Students will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to give advice to people who are experiencing a wide range of complex debt related problems. The module conforms to National Occupational Standard SFJIB12, and topics include:

Money Advice in the modern context and its relevance in today¿s economic environment

Money Advice and the County Court, principally actions in relation to the recovery of money and actions in relation to the recovery of property.

Money Advice and the Magistrates Court, including the recovery of financial penalties and Council Tax/Community Charge.

Money Advice and Bailiffs, County Court and Private Bailiffs, including bailiff¿s powers and clients rights, costs and complaints.

Bankruptcy and Insolvency, including Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVA), Debt Relief Orders and alternatives to bankruptcy
Module Learning Strategies
Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (25 hours)
10 hrs - Lectures/tutorials and tutorials
5 hrs - module/assessment support which may be face to face or virtual
10 hrs - On line Blackboard lectures including interactive exercises and activities

Guided Independent Study: (125 hours)
15 hrs - Preparation for scheduled sessions and follow up
65 hrs - Independent study and wider reading including searching web based resources
45 hrs - Preparation for and completing the assignment
Module Special Admissions Requirements
Students must have successfully completed Welfare Benefits and Money Advice at level 4.
Module Additional Assessment Details
A written assignment of 2000 words weighted 100% Assesses all learning outcomes

LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the relevant law, rules and principles that relate to money advice (SG1 & 9) (Knowledge and Understanding)

2. Demonstrate the ability to analyse and apply the law, rules and principles in order to provide reasoned and appropriate solutions to client problems (SG1, 9 & 10) (Analysis, Application, Problem Solving)

3. Demonstrate the ability to use appropriate sources of information and research tools to identify and support current debt law and information. (SG7,10 & 11) (Communication, Enquiry)
