Module Indicative Content
This module aims to provide students with a thorough knowledge and understanding of some of the key concepts of specialist Debt Advice. This second level module builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired in the level four Welfare Benefits and Debt module. Students will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to give advice to people who are experiencing a wide range of complex debt related problems. The module conforms to National Occupational Standard SFJIB12, and topics include:

Money Advice in the modern context and its relevance in today's economic environment

Money Advice and the County Court, principally actions in relation to the recovery of money and actions in relation to the recovery of property.

Money Advice and the Magistrates Court, including the recovery of financial penalties and Council Tax/Community Charge.

Money Advice and Bailiffs, County Court and Private Bailiffs, including bailiff's powers and clients rights, costs and complaints.

Bankruptcy and Insolvency, including Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVA), Debt Relief Orders and alternatives to bankruptcy

Module Learning Strategies
This is a distance learning award, and the Blackboard VLE will provide a structured framework for the delivery of this module

Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities: (3 hours)
1 hour Telephone tutorials with the tutor
2 hours Scheduled discussion boards

Guided Independent Study: (147 hours) This will be made up of:
Preparation for tasks and online discussions and seminars; Wider reading including exploring additional sources of information, (particularly web based), updating their knowledge in line with developments and changes
Reading study materials, asynchronous online seminars, interactive tasks
Preparation for and completing the assignment

LEARNING OUTCOMES
