Module Indicative Content
The module will explore :-

- Equal opportunities, concepts of equal opportunities, the need for equal opportunities - evidence of structural inequality, good practice, problems of implementing policy, the importance of language.
- 'Race' and ethnic relations law - a critical appreciation of key legislation including some consideration of immigration law (mostly dealt with in module on Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Immigration Advice),
- Sex and gender discrimination including issues concerning equal pay, maternity rights, rights of part-time workers, parental rights
- Disability discrimination
- Discrimination on grounds of age, religion and sexual orientation. Current issues and proposals.
- The work of the Equality and Human Rights commission
- The influence of Europe on UK legislation and case law
- Human Rights Act, 2000, impact upon UK law.

Module Additional Assessment Details
1. Students are required to undertake assessed on line discussions ¿ 2,000 words (30%) which contributes to all learning outcomes
AND

2. An assignment plan - 500 words [0 weighted]

2. A case study assignment 3,500 words (70%) contributes to all LOs

Formative Assessment - Tutor feedback will be provided via the online seminar discussion forums and also during the module via email and telephone responses to tasks and exercises.

In order to pass this module students must achieve a minimum of grade point 2 in each assessment component and an average grade point 4 overall.
