Module Additional Assessment Details
A Portfolio of coursework consisting of 3 components:
- Character design & Puppet construction with portfolio evidence of process - 50%
- Team based Stop Motion segment featuring character driven performance animation - 50%
Ability to construct a working puppet for stop motion animation [Learning Outcomes 1,2,4]
Ability to work in a team on a collaborative stop motion animation project [Learning Outcomes 4,5]
Portfolio evidence of technical and creative response to a design brief which clearly demonstrates design development throughout the production of a stop motion animation project [Learning Outcomes 2,3]
All animation content to be presented digitally.
All work must be submitted in a labelled clear A3 portfolio
Module Indicative Content
This module aims to provide you with the experience of developing a stop motion animation puppet using industry level techniques.
You will work on a collaborative project as a small group to complete a short performance driven piece to an appropriate soundtrack.
You will documents all stages of the puppets creation to demonstrate technical skill and an understanding of puppet making principles in practice.
Module Learning Strategies
Studio learning takes place in timetabled sessions with academic staff who introduce key contextual and practice based lectures focused on the
- Creation of a stop motion puppet.
- Working in a team environment.
Through these initial lectures you will gain an understanding of the core concepts, theory regarding stop motion animation puppet production.
Independent study will form the majority of time spent "answering the brief" through evidence of character research, preparation models, 3D workshop technical instruction and application of methods and processes necessary for completion of an appropriate response to the assignments.
You will access studio and pre-recorded material for review and consolidation of animate and velocity software during the production.
Attendance at Technical Instruction sessions will be crucial for the understanding and application of specific camera and lighting practice.
Seminars and group Critiques support your studio practice through formative evaluation and will take place at critical points of the semester to review working progress.
Summative assessment takes place at the end of the module where showreels will be presented for final assessment.
There will be two designated tutorials set up to enable students to discuss their work individually with key members of delivery staff.

Wood, Metal & Plastic workshops
Specific Skills Modulettes will be assigned to this module in use of Animation equipment including health and safety
The Blackboard virtual learning environment will be available ( where relevant) to support this module. Details will be supplied in the module handbook.
Module descriptors will have more than one modulette assigned and this information will be held by the Faculty Office initially.
