At the end of this module you will submit a body of work as outlined in the module handbook.

Part A (66%) [LO 1 - 7]
This will include an individual negotiated learning plan containing a minimum of four detailed project proposals which must take into account your ability to investigative, annotated, research the industry potential projects and proposals.
You should submit sketchbooks and layout pads which reflect a substantial body of visual exploration of a range of potential ideas, images and design development. Visuals demonstrating the most appropriate methods of communication.

Part B (34%) [LO 1 - 7]
Professional Presentation of: Research File. A substantial gathering of information, this will indicate conclusions from visits to design studios or other establishments linked to particular identified career pathways
Personal promotional material, including a direct mail (or mailer)
Action Plan of personal career intentions

To achieve a pass (grade 4 or above) in this module you must complete all the assessment tasks, demonstrate an appreciation of demands and skills expected of you as a professional cartoonist/illustrator and have compiled a list of relevant professional contacts.

Module Indicative Content
This module seeks to prepare you for entry into your chosen profession or postgraduate study, and aims to develop your awareness of the range of career and opportunities available. It aims to provide you with the opportunity to utilise all of your practical, critical and analytical skills in the realisation of self initiated cartoon and illustration projects.
You will be expected to accept full responsibility for establishing and pursuing distinct personal goals within the Cartoon & Comic Arts industry. You will be able to make realistic, well informed decisions in relation to your future career intentions, which will develop your ability to cope with the transition from undergraduate study to the next stage in your career.
Topics will include the jobs market and employment opportunities, interview techniques, responding to job advertisements, CV preparation, personal promotion, professional presentation of work and the development of contacts.
This module is structured to provide you with a basis for determining personal objectives with regard to the realisation of a distinctive body of work. These personal ambitions and aspirations are seen as essential to the creative process and progress of an individual.
This is an opportunity for you to explore your creative potential whilst demonstrating organisational skills in the selection and management of media, techniques and technologies appropriate to the projects.
A negotiated learning plan and action plan, devised in consultation with relevant academic staff, will ensure that the outcomes of the module meet the intellectual rigour, creativity and skill levels appropriate for the final stage of undergraduate study.
Module Learning Strategies
Introductory briefing/lecture.
Visiting lecturers from industry, lecture and seminar group work.
Individual and group tutorials will take place, you will present your work in progress and receive constructive criticism and feedback. This will be key to developing the constituents of your final portfolio of work (undertaken in Negotiated Project Two).
Independent study, you will be required to engage in selective research and information gathering. Developing self promotion strategies to promote yourself outside the confines of the university.
Demonstrate the production of creative solutions for your own self initiated projects.
You will practice professional presentations of your work.
Undergo interview practice and personal presentation skills.
Technical instruction/ surgeries as appropriate.

Students will determine their own reading list appropriate to their personal proposal of work, with staff guidance. Students are expected to take advantage of the extensive library facilities available within the University, keeping abreast of current developments through appropriate periodicals and being aware of the work of major practitioners in their subject.
