Module Details
Learning Outcomes
1.Use a range of established techniques to initiate an effectivecritical analysis of the relationship between people, buildings, environment and context, with reference to current thinking around sustainability, reuse and related environmental issues.
Analysis

2.Apply underlying concepts and principles ofstructural and constructional requirements appropriately, creatively and professionally, and integrate effective and imaginative solutions at a strategic and detailed level in the development of a sustainable architectural proposal.
Application

3.Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of the well-established concepts and principles associated with designing secure and comfortable environments and the effective and imaginative integration of these principals at a strategic and detailed level, in the development of a sustainable architectural proposal.
Reflection

4.Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of the well-established concepts and principles of the regulatory and legislative framework, together with the procedures, theories and trends which together shape current architectural practice.
Knowledge & Understanding

5.Demonstrate a range of visual, written and verbal techniques to conceptualise, represent and communicate your ideas and completed work to specialist and non-specialist audiences, and deploy key techniques of the discipline effectively.
Communication
Additional Assessment Details
Assessment 1 will require students to submit a reflective diary for each session making up the module course. This will reflect on
- How you made use of the ideas explored in lectures to develop your own work in studio.
- Evidence of your own research.
- Personal comments on your own understanding.
- Notes/images from any visits, workshops, practical exercises etc.
- Extracts from lectures, tutorials, books, journals.
- Photos/sketches.

This assessment is worth 40% of the module mark and will assess the following Learning Outcomes
LO3 - Reflection
LO5 - Communication

Assessment 2 will ask students to prepare an illustrated report and presentation detailing the effective technical resolution of an agreed aspect of the project undertaken in Design Resolution - Studio 4.

This assessment is worth 60% of the module markand will assess the following Learning Outcomes
LO1 - Analysis
LO2 - Application
LO4 - Knowledge & Understanding
LO5 - Communication

All learning outcomes have to be met in order to pass the module.
Indicative Content
This module engages theoretically and practically with key aspects of the design and construction of sustainable architectural proposals. Through, discussion, debates, visits, seminars, lectures, model-making and the construction of full-scale projects and prototypes, you will learn about the relevant considerations and the appropriate strategies that can be employed to design secure, safe and comfortable environments at a scale and typology relating to those being considered in Design Studios 4 & 5.

The practical nature of this module means that you will be given the opportunity to utilise the school workshops, SmartZone and the dedicated external building space to experiment at different scales with construction and structural techniquesand to engage in the following
- Independent research
- The preparation and evaluation of architectural concepts through model making, including large-scale & full-scale prototyping, testing, and experimentation
- The application and evaluation of common principles of construction, structure, and environmental design in relationto a design proposal
- The verbal and graphical presentation of your ideas.

Outputs for this module will include, the submission of a diary reflecting on each session of the module and including your own lecture notes, and examples of independently researched work.

Through negotiation with the module tutor, the principal output for this module will be anan illustrated report and schematic drawings illustrating an analysis and assessment of different options for the construction, materials, structural, environmental and fire strategies appropriate for your architectural proposal in Design Studio 4. The report will include the technical resolution of an agreed aspect of your design proposal (ie a technical drawing or model of an agreed section, detail, or junction).

This module will be supported by input in the following Level 5 Modules
- Design Resolution - Studio 4.
Learning Strategies
Scheduled Teaching & Learning Activities on this module will include presentations by module staff and outside specialists, specialist lectures, workshops and building visits.

In addition, Guided Independent Studywill include student presentations, individual and group tutorials, and feedback sessions.

Further support materials and information will be made available on Blackboard. Each session in studiowill commence an introduction by the module tutor.
