Web Descriptor
To succeed in business, you must truly understand your target demographics. In this module, you will learn how to harness diversity as an enabler of business success. You may also have the opportunity to participate in a volunteer programme in the local community, where you will explore opportunities for social entrepreneurship.
Learning Strategies
This module will use a mix of presentation techniques and interactive tasks to explore the module content. You will be challenged to unpick the different and often competing elements of culture and cultural awareness in organisations. Collaborative working within the module will enable identification and exploration of cultural diversity, and the opportunity of an overseas residential will offer exposure to an international, cross-cultural setting.
You will undertake ‘formative’ assessments during the module to help you monitor your learning and provide you and us with ongoing feedback on your progress, that helps you prepare for the ‘summative assessment(s) during or at the end of the module.

MODULE INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module will introduce you to the concept that for many organisations, global opportunities and challenges are growing, and opportunities for leaders with a global mindset are increasing. Getting the best from diverse groups of people in a global economy is fundamental to business success. Exploring and understanding the impact of globalisation on an organisation and its employees, this module will highlight the importance of managing across both organisational and cultural boundaries.
Working collaboratively in an international cross-cultural setting means understanding and dealing with the challenges and complexities that arise as a result of diversity. Global competencies, cultural assimilation and the need for a genuine enthusiasm for diversity will be examined and analysed in the context of business.
For students studying at Stoke Campus, this module will incorporate a residential (overseas if possible), including visits to international organisations/social enterprises, to further develop the global mindset. You may also participate in a volunteer programme in which you are able to not only 'give back' to local communities via social enterprise activities, but also develop your understanding of cultural diversity. APIIT Lanka will provide a series of guest speakers to further develop the global mindset.
