Additional Assessment Details
The presentation of the Business Plan. This will consist of:
1. A written business plan (4,000 words) containing narrative and data (70%) (LOs 1-3)
2. An Individual Presentation of the proposed business (15 mins) (30%) (LOs 4)
Indicative Content
This module will introduce you to the practical and theoretical concept of entrepreneurship and new venture creation. You will be able to apply theories and approaches in order to provide a holistic overview of the entrepreneurial processes. Furthermore, it will provide you with the opportunity to set-up in business for yourself via the creation of a new independent firm. You will be supported by our University Innovation Enterprise Zone working with Entrepreneurs in Residence and Business Mentors.
There is coverage of the economic, social and psychological approaches to the theory of entrepreneurship, and the role of the entrepreneur in developing innovation. The module examines the identification of new business opportunities, starting, managing and marketing a new venture, writing a business plan, and raising finance.

This module will address the following aspects of starting a business:
-The idea creation
-Evaluating a sound marketing plan
-Target markets and segmentation
-Competitor reaction -business viability
-Classification of costs
-Profit margins
-Contribution
-Break even analysis and margin of safety
-Capital requirements
-Use and sources of finance
-Rent or buy decisions
-The Business Plan: objectives and templates, the importance, format and preparation of a business plan.
-Cash flow forecasts: - Accounting for a Business Start Up: profit and loss balance sheet and cash flow forecasts. -Risk analysis

Take the first step on a journey to entrepreneurial success. Throughout your course, you will have explored opportunities for business creation. In this module, you will lay the foundations of your own business, or work with others to develop their own ideas.
Learning Strategies
This module invites outstanding academic and successful entrepreneurs to bring their expertise and knowledge related to the entrepreneurship into the classroom.

Teaching and learning methods include: Interactive case studies, directed reading, visiting speakers, lectures, interaction with Entrepreneurs, problem-solving activities and private/guided study.

You will undertake ‘formative’ assessments during the module to help you monitor your learning and provide you and us with ongoing feedback on your progress, that helps you prepare for the ‘summative assessment(s) during or at the end of the module.
