Coursework totalling 100% made up of two components
1. A written assignment of length 2,000 words (LO 2,3) (60%)
2. An "electronic poster" for conference presentation (1,4) (40%)

Students will be required to complete summative assessments after having completed and received feedback on linked formative activities within the course.

Additional Assessment Details (including formative feedback / assessment):

Within the programme students will take part in a number of activities that provide formative guidance to help them complete the assessments. These may include critiques of poster based scientific careers, research of educational requirements needed to follow a science based career path or produce a short paragraph of text as if it was part of their personal statement for entry to University.
Module Indicative Content
The programme of activities are designed with three main purposes

- To build upon sections of your current curriculum and thus extend and enhance them by investigating their application. Guided by University lecturers and 'real world' practitioners.

- Increase your awareness of how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) based knowledge can and is used by society.

- Increase your knowledge of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) based careers and provide material that may help you decide where your future educational needs may lie.

Completion of the activities will help consolidate your studies and may help inform future decisions by highlighting some of the vocational avenues supported fundamentally by STEM. This course may be particularly useful if you are considering applying to a University as it can be used to strengthen your personal statement.

A programme of lectures, practical work and workshop activities will extend STEM information into the practical field helping you understand how the real world applies this knowledge. As part of this ethos some of the sessions will have knowledge in practice sections delivered by a range of practitioners.
