HUMAN ANATOMY
This module introduces students to the definitions, terminology and fundamental concepts of anatomy. It will provide a firm foundation for the study of anatomy in subsequent levels. It considers the core concepts of anatomy in terms of the cellular; including histology, organ, organ system and whole body. It will focus on three distinct areas; skin, and sensory perception, skeleton and muscles and major body organs: the lungs, heart, liver and kidneys. In addition, the application of anatomical knowledge will be considered, for example in a range of biomedical and forensic settings such as medical imaging and fingerprinting technologies. Where appropriate a link will be made with physiological principles, such as, in terms of skin colour change resulting from vasodilation and constriction, tissue bruising and related topics.
The module provides students with a framework for further study in anatomy.
HUMAN ANATOMY
A practical anatomy examination, lasting one hour, and including the evaluation of qualitative material. Weighted at 100% and assessing Learning Outcomes 1-3.
HUMAN ANATOMY
This enquiry based learning module emphasises a proactive student approach to their learning. A key component to the development of understanding, which instrumental in the design of the module, is the need to provide opportunities for students to develop observational, practical handling and dissecting skills.
There will be 8 weeks of 2 hour core concepts workshops and practical sessions which are tutor organised and co-delivered with students. Overall these are collaborative study periods. There will be an extensive on-line (Blackboard) resource to guide students in 134 hours of independent study. This on-line aspect will include audio tutor support, YouTube resources, exploratory text material and preparation material for core concept workshops and practical sessions.
There will be opportunities, during the workshops and practical sessions, to become familiar with elements of the practical assessment, thereby providing formative feedback.
