Module Details
Module Indicative Content
1. The ecology of the major UK terrestrial, freshwater and coastal biotopes will be reviewed
2. The theoretical underpinning of the term `habitat? will be examined including:
issues relating to spatial integrity of populations e.g. habitat complementation, connectivity, fragmentation, isolation, attrition, minimum viable area and metapopulations
Module Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered as a series of 12x2 hour lectures to introduce the central topics. Students will be provided with activities (e.g. reading) each week to explore further issues raised in the lectures. The rest of the independent study time will be used to prepare for the exam.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Students will be required to complete 1 piece of summative assessment.

The assessment for this module will be a single 2-hour examination


Students will be provided with formative assessment and feedback via an assessment workshop during the lecture programme
