Module Indicative Content
The module is based around the Northumberland study tour. During the tour students will see examples of integrated land management on the defence estates i.e. military training alongside farming, forestry and recreation (a large part of the site is on the Northumberland National Park). Nationally important archaeological sites will be examined (Hadrians Wall) as well as a range of scheduled ancient monuments. Conservation sites, habitat regeneration sites and wildlife projects will be studied (Farne Islands, blackgrouse regeneration project, SSSI's). Honey pot recreational sites both successful and failing will be examined (Cragside Hall, Alnwick Castle and Water Garden, Kielder Forest and Kielder Water). Students will be briefed prior to the tour so that they can research and produce an assignment on Integrated Land Management.
