Module Indicative Content
Geographic Information Systems are widely used and have a particular value in countryside management. This module develops on the skills required to use one, so that students understand the scope of GIS, but focuses on the value of the data as a management tool. Particular emphasis will be placed on the use of GIS for biodiversity management within the countryside.
Module Learning Strategies
21hours of taught sessions including 9 hours of I.T workshops that will cover the principles of the topic and the use of the software. 12 hours of lectures covering the application of GIS output as a management tool. These are delivered over 7 weeks 3 hours per week.
The independent study time should be split 79 hours reading and 50 hours assessment preparation.

Manipulated GIS output weighted at 30% (LO 2, 3)
An assignment of 2000 words weighted at 70% (LO 1, 4)
Formative assessment will be via tutor review of the data manipulation on an on going basis.
