Module Details
Module Indicative Content
The module starts with an overview of the science that not only underlies global environment change but also the uncertainties inherent in current knowledge and risk quantification. The introductory sessions will also include the ecological and ecophysiological underpinning needed to understand the major problems impacting the management and conservation of biodiversity.

The initial scientific grounding will be followed by themed sessions that will investigate various dimensions of the problem involving coping strategies at local, regional and global levels and over a variety of temporal scales. The nature of the problem necessitates a wide perspective and the module will also touch upon a wide scope of issues ranging from deep green ecology through to emerging politics and policy implementation.
Module Additional Assessment Details
100% - Production of an "electronic information portal" [LO 1 & 2]

This will occur at the end of the module. The portal will be aimed at providing an access point to information you think is relevant to answering the question set, together with your thoughts to guide the reader through the material to follow your arguments.

The question posed will be via negotiation or if necessary tutor-directed.

Additional Assessment Details (including formative feedback / assessment):
All learning activities are designed to inform and raise understanding to provide formative input relevant to answering the question.

Specific activities will be devoted to the final assessment topic and also the mechanics of "electronic" portal construction.

Module Learning Strategies
Lecture/workshops - 11 x 2 hrs
Portal construction techniques - 1 x 2 hrs

The module will adopt a blended strategy to help the student navigate the material to meet the specified learning outcomes. The fundamental "factual" information will be managed via Blackboard with externally linked interactive technology based learning where applicable. The contact sessions will build upon this material to explore, discuss and aid understanding and application of the covered material. This will include sessions with specialist lecturers.

Blackboard directed activities and material - 50 hours
Independently derived research and study - 50 hours
Direct assessment preparation - 26 hours
