Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
The module explores areas of specialism within your chosen area of study which are not covered elsewhere in the award. The modules will comprise student focused workshops and a series of presentations from award tutors and external speakers. The presentations will be supplemented with a discussion about the impact on this specialised area in today’s World. You will negotiate eight topics from the programme with guidance from an award tutor. After researching these topics you will choose two which you will study in more depth and which will form the topic for your assessment.

Student focused workshops will
- Review material covered during L4 - L6 and how your theoretical knowledge and practical skills have developed at each Level.
- Identify specialist topics which will extend your theoretical knowledge
- Reflect on how these specialist areas of knowledge will enhance your expertise and develop skills to match a person specification in your chosen field.

Examples of specialist topics include Big Data, advances in the biopharmaceutical industry, personalised medicine, implications of food manufacture on health, computational biology, the management of aquatic environments and aquaculture, impact of travel on health, quorum sensing.
ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
1. Review of eight specialist topics and a justification for choosing two for in depth research. Maximum 1000 words (20%). Learning outcomes 1 and 2
2. Lecture (20 minutes plus 10 minutes questions) on the specialist topics. (80%) Learning outcomess 2, 3 and 4.

LEARNING STRATEGIES
4 hours (2 x 2) of workshops covering module introduction and identifying relevant specialist topics
16 hours (8 x 2) presentations and discussions (guest speakers and staff)
2 hours individual tutorials with award tutors (including negotiation of topics to be studied)
4 hours (2 x 2) assessed student presentations

TEXTS
Information will be available from primary literature relevant to the subject discipline, National and International organisations (e.g Public Health England, World Health Organisation).
