Module Details
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of advanced clinical practice in a healthcare science discipline which includes a perspective on multidirectional and interdisciplinary working
Knowledge and understanding

Analyse your research and plan the application to practice (or in a clinical network or community of practice). Evaluate the impact and outcomes of the application using appropriate tools.
Analysis
Application

Synthesise and present key aspects of research findings in a manner and standard professionally associated with the subject specialism
Communication

Comprehensively and critically understand the publication and dissemination processes appropriate for the subject specialism and community of practice, including peer review and/or other professional requirements.¿
Learning

Present, exhibit or publish using digital and/or social media appropriate to the professional audience and demonstrate critical awareness of context and placement (whereby placement can be physical or the selection of publishing outlet or arena of presentation)¿
Application
Reflection

ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
1. An oral presentation of your research work (LO 1, 2, 3) 40% 25 mins

2. Depending on the discipline you submit either a) an article written up for submission to an agreed peer-reviewed journal or b) a detailed proposal for exhibiting your work. Assessment is based on adherence to either the journal guidelines or the exhibition plan (LO 4) 30% 3000 words

3. An example, and reflection of, an externally facing digital dissemination of your research (e.g., blog, vlog, interview with media, twitter feed, sway) (LO 5) 30% to be advised by module co-ordinator and dependent upon the medium used

INDICATIVE CONTENT
The module introduces you to issues arising from the exhibition or presentation of your work alone or with others and allows you to explore how publication or presenting and exhibiting can transform the way work is received and interpreted.¿The module will help you prepare for dissemination of your research work through the skills of public speaking, marketing, press briefs and preparation for summarising your work through a presentation and further dissemination via social media such as a blog.¿Finally, you will develop your skills in negotiating and influencing, developing further your role in research teams and in leading research. You will examine what successful research leadership is like, with practise in combining research leadership with other leadership and management roles within your current professional role.

In this module you will continue to develop your clinical research practice by focusing on two critical questions:

How can you use what you have learnt in your own research endeavours to impact and advance yours and others clinical practice?

How can you disseminate your research findings in a timely fashion, to produce maximum impact, sustainability and longevity through the establishment of research and professional networks?

The activities and tasks within the module support you in developing a functional and robust skill set in scientific communication, as an integral part of postgraduate study and continued work as a professional within healthcare science and related areas. The module tutors will work with you, as professionals, to establish influential and productive networks and to identify the use of such networks for joint work, funding applications, productive enquiry and recognition for advancing and innovative research-informed practice. You will identify your own workplace clinical practice agendas and evaluate the impact of current research on these, including developing research informed view on the potential of research to impact positively. You will examine professional bodies and groups related to your discipline and their role in the research led agendas and dissemination of research. A central part of your developing skill set will be to recognise and embed digital and social media as a powerful and yet disruptive tool for disseminating research, developing contacts and networking for influence. This is in addition to learning about established ways of research dissemination such as publication, exhibition, conference work etc. The module will provide insight on the development of research for publication, including how to select journals, meet house styles, and learning skills around publishing, presenting and analysing Data.¿

LEARNING STRATEGIES
In this module you will follow a 13-week guided study programme and access support material via Blackboard and or Microsoft Office 365 software modalities. Face to face contact will be organised around four-day long sessions broken into lectures, workshops and reflective activities. You will need to engage in 3 further days of networking or related activity, organised as part of your professional role and upon which you can reflect.

In addition, over the 13 weeks the Blackboard VLE will be used to support learning and will host a discussion forum and interim tasks. You will be required to access additional support material independently. Understanding of key concepts will be self-assessed via questions posed on Blackboard and tutors feedback will be provided.¿

As part of the learning strategy you will be required to present Major Independent Project work at the annual Staffordshire University Postgraduate Conference or GradEx conferences. Where the calibre of work is appropriate and if funding is available you will be encouraged and supported to present at national (subject specific) conferences.¿
