artwork and visual experimentation which demonstrates a range of personal response and approaches, growing proficiency, and understanding of each of the module themes and technical areas

visual journals and records documenting the progression of your work and creative decision-making

review and reflection of your work process, and how different methods have shaped your work and creative outcomes.

Preparation of creative works and outcomes to an appropriate standard

Selection and curation of design outcomes and creative works for display


The portfolio should present your work in a suitable and appropriately ‘designed’ format.

INDICATIVE CONTENT
This introductory module provides students with foundational knowledge and creative production skills crucial for successful engagement in studio tasks and design projects throughout the creative practices programme.



Students will participate in practical activities and technical workshops, boosting their confidence to explore and express personal ideas using a wide variety of skills, methods and techniques.



This may include areas such as; practical and visual approaches to research, contemporary drawing and image making, image and print creation, and introduction to photography and digital media. Students will also explore the use of visual methods (2D) and physical media and materials (3D) to explore visual principles like structure, composition, colour, and form. The details of specific workshops may change on an annual basis.



Students are encouraged to employ a variety of methods and materials to generate personal ideas. The module activities are designed to support student in crafting a strong portfolio and supporting visual journal, which are due for submission at the end of the module.



During mid-module reviews and production meetings, students discuss their work and the impact of research on their ideas. This cycle of creation, feedback, and refinement enhances each student's visual understanding and their ability to articulate visual concepts. The module emphasises conceptual thinking and the articulation of visual concepts, preparing students for future modules and creative careers.
