Students will have access to College and University libraries and research facilities.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Students must submit work for all assessments, and must pass the Reflective Learning Journal assessment.

Assessment One: A portfolio of evidence of participation in professional activities relating to leadership and management, with associated commentary (45%) [Learning Outcome 1]

Assessment Two: A substantial written response in an appropriate format associated with a planning need e.g. Funding bid. Strategic plan. Training programme etc (45%) [Learning Outcome 2]

Assessment Three: Reflective Learning Journal evaluating the learning experience (10%) [Learning Outcome 3]

Module Indicative Content
In this module students will explore professional responsibilities, and the qualities required for leadership and management. The module supports Personal Development in Specialist Pathway, offering the opportunity to investigate processes and skills associated with positions of responsibility in the workplace, and the associated legal, ethical and practical constraints.

Students should experience professional situations, such as interviews, bidding for funding, responding to government strategies, action planning, liaising with clients, responding to complaints, financial planning including taxation, and risk assessment etc.
Module Learning Strategies
Introduction to module: 2 hrs
Workshops to include: 35 hrs
Professional communication e.g. skills for negotiating and persuading; dealing with conflict; the interview process; chairing meetings etc: Government Strategies, legislation in the workplace and strategic planning process, e-commerce etc.
Professional issues: Legal and ethical considerations, personal and company taxation, insurance etc.
Group tutorials with formative feedback: 5 hrs
Group critiques and presentations: 8 hrs
Individual tutorials: 2 hrs

Total contact time 52 hrs per student
