You will present for assessment a body of work as outlined in the module information pack, this will include:

RESEARCH JOURNAL, (2000 words or equivalent) recording research and critical analysis which links a specialist creative discipline to relevant areas of industry practice. Weighted 100%. (LO1-4)


The journal should contain;

journal documenting the progress towards project completion

exploratory research and investigative material collected from a variety of sources; journals, sketchbooks or visual diaries; reference to the work of others working in graphic design, illustration or photography; a reflective, analytical and evaluative commentary, etc.

INDICATIVE CONTENT
This module focuses on professional skill development and aligning specialist knowledge to potential career paths in; graphic design, illustration, photography, and animation.


Students will be introduced to wider cultural and economic influences on modern design practices. They are encouraged to explore the role of design in society and the wider cultural community.


An integral part of this module is the maintenance of an online research journal. This tool serves to document students' understanding of concepts and skills, fostering reflective learning.


The module is structured to ensure timely progression, starting with a project proposal, followed by research activities, and concluding with a final journal outcome. The research encompasses current practice, theory, management, and history, using both primary and secondary research methods. The expectation is for students to present their findings professionally. The concluding project contributes to the development of studio projects and professional skills, thereby benefiting students' future ambitions and growth as creatives.


This module will feature a collection of 'modulettes', including workshops, research activities, lectures and guest speakers. These activities are designed to help students acquire a deep knowledge of the industrial and professional practices that inform the specialist field within the creative industries. The activities aim to enhance a students' industrial awareness and strengthen their professional skills in their chosen field.


Thematic briefs provided by lecturers or initiated by students, will prompt the modules themes and activities. Evidence of a critical and iterative process of development, production, and delivery is required from students in all specialist areas.
