Only available for study as a part-time evening module at full market value cost.
Students must have passed Network Fundamentals and Routing Protocols and Concepts, or passed CCNA1 and 2 as part of a CNAP programme.
Module Indicative Content
LAN switching and wireless is the third of the four sub-modules preparing students for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) designation. LAN switching and wireless introduces students to Local Area Networks (LANs) based on switching techniques and wireless technologies. Upon completion of this course, students will have performed tasks related to:
- Basic switch concepts
- VLANs
- Switch protocols (VTP, STP)
- Inter-VLAN Routing
- Basic wireless concepts and configuration.
Module Additional Assessment Details
A 50% coursework typically an online assessment or case study of approximately 1500 words (Learning Outcomes 1 and 2).
Practical Coursework 50% (Learning Outcome 1).
Module Learning Strategies
The module is:
- Self-managed learning using on-line material
- On-line multiple choice tests, relating to each of the modules
- The module will be delivered over 8 weeks; 2 x 3hr evenings per week, Each evening typically comprising one I hour lecture per session to supplement on-line material and 2hrs practical experimentation
- 16 hours lectures and 32 hours labs / tutorials
