Module Indicative Content
Demonstrate the concepts of wireless LAN design and installation.
Discriminate between and describe the IEEE 802.11 wireless standards and demonstrate understanding of how they would influence a design.
Configure and install various wireless access points, bridges, adapters and antennae that meet mobility and throughout specifications including the site survey and documentation.
Configure, monitor and maintain a WLAN using both CLI and web-based Device Manager tools.
Identify wireless security threats and vulnerabilities.
Configure wireless LAN security using MAC filtering, WEP, EAP and 802-1x technologies.
Demonstrate an understanding of proper site survey techniques and safety practices.
Configure various network monitoring technologies including Syslog, SNMP and logging.
Troubleshoot wireless installation and configurations.
Demonstrate an understanding of vertical and horizontal wireless implementations.
Module Additional Assessment Details
- An in-class test weighted at 50% which will assess Learning outcomes 1and 4.
- A practical examination not in examination conditions weighted at 30% which will assess learning outcome 2.
- A logbook which details the learning undertaken in the workplace weighted at 20% which will assess learning outcome 3.
