Module Indicative Content
Concepts of Switched and Wireless Networks is the third one of the four sub-modules preparing students for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) designation. Concepts of Switched and Wireless Networks introduces students to Local Area Networks (LANs) based on switching techniques and wireless technologies. Upon completion of this course, students will have performed tasks related to:
- Basic switch concepts
- VLANs
- Switch protocols (VTP, STP)
- Inter-VLAN Routing
- Basic wireless concepts and configuration.
Module Additional Assessment Details
One coursework, weighted at 50%, typically an online assessment or case study of approximately 1500 words. (Learning Outcomes 1 and 2)
Practical Coursework 50% (Learning Outcome 1)
Module Learning Strategies
The module is:
- Self-managed learning using on-line material
- On-line multiple choice tests, relating to each of the modules
- The learner is expected to have read through the on-line course material and have attempted 50% of the lab experiments prior to attending the course. These will be supplied electronically 10 weeks before the course start date. It is expected that the learner puts in approximately 2hrs self-study per day of the course and 10.5 hours of self-study in each of the 10 weeks prior to the start of the course.
- The module will be delivered over 5 days with normally 7 hours of class contact per day. Each day will typically comprise two 1 hour lectures to supplement on-line material and 5 hours practical experimentation giving a weekly total of 10 hours lectures and 25 hours labs / tutorials;

Module Special Admissions Requirements
The learner must be employed in an instructional role in a Cisco local/regional academy and have passed Concepts of Distributed Data Structures and Concepts of Data Path Selection. This module is charged at the Local Academy training fee rate as per the support contract.
