NetLab system to support remote access to network laboratory eqiupment.

NOTE
Instructors teaching this module who use the CISCO material must have completed the CNAP CCNA3 and CCNA4 instructor training course.

There are titles in each of the collections that will support students studying this module. Staffordshire University has subscriptions to IEEExplore, ACM Digital Library, Elsevier Science Direct and Infotrac Computer Database all offering full text electronic access to journals and conference proceedings.
Module Additional Assessment Details
A COURSEWORK weighted at 100%.
Coursework weighted at 100% comprising 3 parts
A report weighted at 50%(Learning Outcomes 1 and 4).
(2500 words)
2 practical tests weighted at 25% each (Learning Outcome 2 and 3). (1 hour) closed book.
Module Indicative Content
This module introduces concepts concerning LAN switched networks and architectures including VLAN's Network Security, Wide Area Networks, Network Management and Access Control Lists. It also covers an introduction to wireless networks based on 802.11.
Module Learning Strategies
These learning strategies will occupy your time:
6 hours classroom teaching including presentations and seminar sessions which will include individual and group activities, On-line multiple choice tests to give formative feedback and team assignment work as part of lab work and skills test
The classroom teaching will include a broad overview of the indicative content.

Independent study will involve using on-line material

Students are encouraged to seek re-enforcement of academic learning through practical experience in their own workplace. Work based learning will include the investigation of how aspects of the taught material apply to the students? own workplace and the application of newly gained knowledge in the workplace as part of the coursework assignment. Students will have access to a work-place based mentor for guidance in the work-based component of this module.

The classroom based learning component of this module provides an opportunity for students to seek and for tutors to provide formative feedback. Outside the classroom, students will be encouraged to discuss aspects of the module within discussion forums that are part of the VLE. These forums will allow discussion with a student's peer group as well as the module tutor. Employer Feedback Forms will be completed by the work-based mentor.
