Prior study of CESCOM10084-4 Introduction to Virtualisation or equivalent. If this is not the case then the student should be able to demonstrate to the module leader that they have a sufficient knowledge within this field to do well.

Module Indicative Content
This module will look in detail at the technologies which can be considered under the umbrella title of virtual computing:
- Cloud Computing
- Virtual OS
- Virtual Storage
- Grid Computing
- Virtual Hardware
- Virtual Software
This list will develop as new technologies are introduced and become widely used. The module will study the details on how these technologies operate and also to consider the impact upon their use. The infrastructure inside companies will need to be adapted to use these. Potential commercial benefits will be considered. Environmental and social impact will be examined - in particuarl issues over legal and regulatory infrastructures. The module will provide the student with the information and will at completion be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the technology from the academic, professional and practical aspects of its use.

Case Study 50% 3000 word report
Written Examination 50% 2 hours duration
The case Study will cover the learning outcomes (1,3,4, and 6)
The Written Exam will cover the learning outcomes (1,2,5) Final assessment.
Module Learning Strategies
26 hours lectures and 52 hours practicals The lectures will introduce the various virtualization concepts. The practicals will supplement the lecture and allow for practical usage of the technology.
