Module Additional Assessment Details
A group assignment weighted at 40%. An individual report weighted at 60% as the final submission.
A group assignment (approximately 2400 words equivalent) weighted at 40% covering Learning Outcome 6. This will consider issues to do with the wider security context in which biometrics, digital forensics and security operates.
This will be the first item to be submitted.
A report (approximately 3600 words) weighted at 60% covering Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Consisting of research, presentation and evaluation of the algorithms and techniques available to and included within biometric technologies when used as a security system, together with a consideration of the challenges associated with humans interacting with such devices. Final assessment.
Module Indicative Content
This module explicitly focuses on significant elements required for the achievement of STAFFORDSHIRE GRADUATE ATTRIBUTES.
Biometrics:
Fingerprints, face, iris, hand, retina, voice, ear and other biometric techniques and technologies as used within security environments.
Biometrics metrics and taxonmy, usability and interaction, hardware and software requirements, implementation challenges, interfacing, pattern recognition, security considerations / practicalities. Social, ethical and legal issues and implications.
Professional issues:
Professional Bodies, Ethics and Codes of Conduct relevant to digital forensics and computer security.
Organisational context of professional work:
- Health and Safety
- Risk assessment and estimation

In addition to the lecture and practical sessions, you will be required to undertake a range of directed independent research and learning in order to successfully complete the assessments.
