Module Assessment Details
Case Study (100%) 3000 words - Learning outcomes (2,3,and 4) - This case study will examine networking requirements and design of a solution.
Module Indicative Content
This module will look at aspects of the technology which underlies an enterprise grade network.
The course will look at:
- OSI/TCP network model
- Ethernet Technology
- IP addressing
- TCP/UDP based communications
- Network design and documentation
- Switching and LAN technology
- Introduction to WANs and routing technology and configuration
- Routing in WANs
- 802.11 technology
- Network Management and Troubleshooting
- IP Addressing Services
- Global Communications and its consideration within remote/group working and security regarding these
Module Learning Strategies
This course will have lectures (24 hours) and practicals (24 hours). The lecture will be looking at the academic aspects of networking within a commercial organisation. The underlying theory will be given in these sessions. This though will be reinforced through the use of the practicals. The intention of this course is to give the student the skills needed to work on Cisco based live equipment in a commercial setting and as such the tutorials are the chance to work on the equipment and reinforce through experimentation what has been covered in the lectures. The student will also be given optional access to the Cisco Academy learning material if they wish to carry out extra study.
