Module Indicative Content
Building Multilayer Switched Networks is the third of four modules leading to the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) designation. Building Multilayer Switched Networks introduces students to the deployment of the state-of-the-art campus LANs. The module focuses on the selection and implementation of the appropriate services to build reliable scalable multilayer-switched LANs. Students will develop skills in connection with VLANs, VTP, STP, inter-VLAN routing, multilayer switching, redundancy, Cisco AVVID solutions, QoS issues, campus LAN security, and emerging transparent LAN services. This hands-on, lab-oriented module stresses the design, implementation, operation, and troubleshooting of switched and routed environments. Upon completion of this module, students will have performed tasks related to:

- Network requirements
- defining VLANs
- implementing spanning tree
- implementing inter-VLAN routing
- implementing high availability in a campus environment
- wireless LANs
- configuring campus switches to support voice
- minimising service loss and data theft in a campus network.
Module Special Admissions Requirements
Only available for study as a part of the Network Optimisation award. It is recommended that the learner has CCNA or equivalent. Only available for study as a part-time evening module at full market value cost.
