Prior study of Fundamentals of Computer Networks and of Routing and Switching or knowledge equivalent to CCNA1-4 and CCNP Route and CNP Switch.
Module Indicative Content
This module explicitly focuses on significant elements required for the achievement of STAFFORDSHIRE GRADUATE ATTRIBUTES.

This module will look at the current and near future developments of network communications. This is a fast moving field in which technology choices are being constantly pushed out. We will introduce these technologies and allow the student to evaluate them in context to their own understanding and experience that they have gained through placement or through the taught modules. This module will involve lectures and practical elements which will be carried out in the networking labs to allow the student to use the technology. It is expected though that the students will also make the best use of the independent study time to research in a lot more detail about the technologies and where they are useful.

50% Case Study with a 3000 words, covering learning outcomes 1,3,4

50% Written examination, 2 hours duration, covering learning outcomes 1,2 (Final assessment)
Module Learning Strategies
This course will be based on 26 hours of lectures covering the new technologies. This will be supplemented with 52 hours within the lab which will allow the student to develop an understanding of the technology in a practical aspect. Additionally the tutorial time will also be used as part of the discussion to consider how this technology operates and to discuss personal research the students have carried out in line with the lectures.
