12 hours lectures, 20 hours labs / tutorial
Self-managed learning using on-line material
12 lectures in total with 1 lecture per day for the first 8 days and then 2 lectures per day for the final 2 days of the course to supplement on-line material. Lab sessions with 2 hours a day to gain practical networking experience and re-enforce lecture based theory.

Module Indicative Content
Typical network standards such as TCP/IP, ISO OSI, IEEE802.x series etc.
Initialisation of a local area network for use in the SME.
Network topologies.
Typical local area protocols.
Introduction to WANs and routers, architecture, CLI and configuration
Introduction to switches, VLANs, and the 3 layer design model

A case study weighted at 50% (Learning Outcomes 1 and 2)
A practical piece of work weighted at 50% (Learning Outcomes 3 and 4)
