Module Details
Module Additional Assessment Details
100% report, 3,000 words (assessing learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3).
A report completed to a high professional standard. The subject matter of the report has to be agreed by both the level M leader and the module leader of the level 3 module that defines the core subject specific study. The report may require the completion of a practical artefacta as e.g. an investigatory tool, or as a demonstration of the feasibility/viability/applicability of core elements of the topic chosen for study.
Module Indicative Content
Core knowledge and skills to be covered are specified by the relevant level 3 module descriptor that constitutes the underpinning core of subject specific study.
In addition, in depth study in the topic that is chosen as the basis for the report.
Module Learning Strategies
The central focus of the MEng is the fostering of the ability of the MEng students to develop computing-based solutions to problems within the discipline of product development to a high professional standard. As part of this the students will undertake further study in computing aimed at develpoment. As part of this the students will undertake further study in computing aimed at either broadening their base of understanding or further deepening the expertise they already have in given areas. The MEng modules by negotiated study provides the mechanism for this. Essentially the study comprises 2 components:-
1) A core of study of a given subject area which is defined by the learning activites of a level 3 module that covers the given subject area. This provides the basic framework of study for the student. However, it may not be a module which the student has previously passed at level 3. This core study is not assesed by the summative assessment activities defined for the level 3 module (see 2 below). Also please note that the learning hours specified above at 38 hours is only an indicative number being constituted by 2 hours (for report negotiation and guidance) + contact hours as required for the level 3 module, taken to be 36 hours (as typical of the contact hours required by level 3 modules in the computing subject area).
2) An in depth coverage of a given specialist topic within the subject area of the module. This provides the basis for the completion of a report on that topic. The topic and title of the report area chosen by the student, subject to agreement by both the module leader of the module that defines the core of study and the level M leader.
Module Texts
As defined by the relevant level 3 module descriptor plus others as recommended for the completion of the research paper.
Module Special Admissions Requirements
Must be registered on Level M of an MEng award within the subject area of Computing.
Module Resources
