Initialisation of a local area network for use in the SME.
Network topologies.
Typical local area protocols.
Introduction to WANs and routers, architecture, CLI and configuration
Introduction to switches, VLANs, and the 3 layer design model
Module Learning Strategies
12 hours lectures, 20 hours labs / tutorial
Self-managed learning using on-line material
12 lectures in total with 1 lecture per day for the first 8 days and then 2 lectures per day for the final 2 days of the course to supplement on-line material. Lab sessions with 2 hours a day to gain practical networking experience and re-enforce lecture based theory.
