1. Work experience duration weighted at 0%
2. The employment mark based on the portfolio of actions sent to the university every 3 months weighted at 40%
3. Visit report - mark given by tutor who visits student weighted at 40%
4. Report - mark given for report on placement written by student weighted at 20%

To pass a student must have:

1. Completed, normally, 48 weeks of relevant work experience (32 weeks for Bridging course students).
2. Achieved at least 40% in the placement report.
3. Achieved an aggregate mark from components 1-4 above of 40% or more.

The module cannot be compensated.

To provide practical experience of creating or developing your own IT company and to provide an opportunity to use this to reflect on personal development and career goals.
To experience at first hand the practical application of some of the computing theory and methods covered at level C and I.
To develop appropriate behaviour attitudes within the work environment.
To provide practical experience in the legal, social and ethical issues of working for yourself and having to interact with other organisations.
To apply and further develop communication and decision making skills.

Besides developing their own business, students will develop their learning from:
general relevant technical material;
the use of various software packages, programming languages, equipment and software technologies;
the experience of working to targets often for clients.

Must be eligible to proceed to an industrial placement AND must be registered on a sandwich award in the subject area of computing at the Stafford site. This module is NOT available to students with a tier 4 work permit.
