Module Learning Strategies
A variety of learning strategies will be employed that will include 12 hours of lectures to deliver both the theoretical aspects as well as introducing a number of useful techniques, 24 hours of practical sessions will support the underlying knowledge and skills required to complete the module, and will be faciltated with booklets, course texts, and the internet. Guided study will also be given that can be carried out during non-contact time.

Introduction to structured methods
- Requirements capture
- Process Modelling
- Data Modelling
- Event modelling
- Models to include documentation e.g. entity descriptions, process descriptions
- Use of CASE tools
Introduction to Databases:
- Introduction to the concept and use of a Database Management System
- Implementation of a prototype database management system to include queries, forms and reports to meet user requirement specification (typically using Microsoft Access)
- Implementation of HCI principles to screen design
Module Resources
A proprietary CASE tool such as QSEE Superlite
A proprietary database tool such as MS Access or SQL Server
Module Additional Assessment Details
A coursework assignment worth 100% which will assess Learning Outcomes 1 to 3.
The coursework will involve the design and implementation of a computing solution to a given case study.
