Module Indicative Content
This module explicitly focuses on significant elements required for the achievement of the STAFFORDSHIRE GRADUATE ATTRIBUTES.
Note taking, revision and exam technique. Time management and organisation. Teamwork skills. Research and reading skills, finding appropriate sources, referencing using a bibliographical database. Presentation, report writing, debating skills. Ethics.
Setting personal goals and reflection skills.
Directed numbers, fractions, percentages, powers, decimals, approximation, rates and averages, basic algebra including expanding brackets, factorisation and unit conversion, simplifying algebraic expressions, solving algebraic equations, transposing formulae, linear graphs and equations, quadratic graphs and equations, simultaneous equations.
Module Additional Assessment Details
A portfolio of work which demonstrates development of professional and graduate development skills
50% - 3,000 words - Learning Outcome 1
A CLASS TEST length 2 HOURS weighted at 50%
A series of short class tests - Learning outcomes 2 and 3 Final assessment.

Module Learning Strategies
Lectures will be given but the main emphasis will be on tutorials/practicals to practice skills. Normally 24 hours of lectures and 72 hours of tutorial/practicals over 12 weeks. Guest lectures will be incorporated to introduce students to the Study Skills Centre.
Lecture material will demonstrate and explain fundamental mathematical concepts and techniques. The workshops will be based around self-study materials which will reinforce the lecture material and provide an opportunity to practice the techniques. Students will also be expected to utilise computer-based materials e.g. LTSN Mathcentre website during independent study hours.
