Module Details
INDICATIVE CONTENT
In the first part of this module you will study the following:
- Enterprise Analysis and Architecture - understanding the needs of the business as a whole, its strategic direction and vision. Identifying initiatives that will allow the business to meet its strategic goals and satisfy its objectives.

- Business Architecture - producing 'current', 'intermediate' and 'target' reference architectures. Applying architectures to manage change within the enterprise and to create a 'migration plan' for process improvement.

- Process Improvement Planning - planning for process improvement and giving priority to process improvement programmes in line with business goals and objectives.

- Business Process Modelling - representing both the current ('as is') and future ('to be') processes of a business. Understanding and using BPM tools to analyse and improve business processes, e.g. Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN), Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) and Unified Modelling Language (UML).

- Change Management - putting the improved business processes into practice. Continuous improvement approaches (e.g. Six Sigma). Gaining acceptance for change and monitoring process improvement.

In the second part the module will introduce network, connected devices, server and storage technologies related to Data Science. This includes, multicast technology, server applications and their functionality, common industry OS and application solutions stacks currently supported by x86/x64 systems, the architecture elements of industry standard operating systems, the common components of data centres, security on wired/wireless networks and devices, common desktop virtualisation technologies, mobile computing technologies, as well as thin client technology and solutions.

ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT DETAILS
100% coursework consisting of:
1- Semester 1: A group assignment (3000 words) weighted at 50% typically based around a case study which will assess Learning Outcomes 1, 2 and 3

2- Semester 2: A Final individual assignment (3000 words) weighted at 50% - assessing learning outcomes 4, 5 and 6. Typically a research paper analysing and justifying the selection of suitable hardware/software to perform a solution for the technical development of a sensor network and its associated services for a small medium business.
LEARNING STRATEGIES
48 hours lectures / 48 hours labs/tutorials.

2 lectures a week, 2 labs/tutorials a week. In addition, the student will be expected to carry out self-directed study of the issues which have been discussed in the lecture and practical work using materials available on the VLE.
