Module Additional Assessment Details
A 5,000 word report (work based) weighted at 75% (Learning outcomes 1 and 2)
A visit tutor's mark weighted at 25% (Learning outcomes 3 and 4)
Module Indicative Content
This module is only available to the part-time students studying BSc (Hons) Applied Computing and is a core module for the award.
As a part-time applied computing student you should already be employed in a suitable computing/information systems environment.
A suitable work based project will be agreed between your industrial supervisor and the module leader, and a "learning contract" will be agreed with you. The project duration will normally be a period of 15 weeks. The project can be started prior to starting the course but would normally be completed in Sem1 of the first period of study.
The work undertaken will obviously vary greatly from one workplace to another.
However all projects must be approved by the module leader to ensure that the level and complexity of work is sufficient to allow satisfactory completion of the assessment. Guidelines for project selection will be explained on the module website resource.
For students who cannot find an appropriate work based project assistance will be provided and a project for the University may be arranged.
Accreditation of Prior Experience or Prior Learning (APEL/APL) is not applicable to this module.
Module Learning Strategies
You will be expected to keep a detailed logbook of your activities.
You will receive a visit from a member of academic staff at some time during your work experience.
On completion of your work experience you will be expected to produce a detailed project report. The strategy for completion is as per the guidance on the module page and also from discussion with the member of staff who visits you.
Within this module you will be introduced to and/or will be able to develop your:
