- Typical techniques to be included are user requirements capture, process models, data models, event models and enquiry access paths
- Correlation of different views of a system, for example, process- data, process - event, data - event models
- Use of CASE tool to check for consistency
- Introduction to the concept and use of a Database Management System
- HCI overview, user skills and characteristics
- Perceptual ability including perception, cognition and memory
- Interface design considerations, including icons, screen layouts and interaction styles
- Task analysis and interface evaluation
- A comparison of multimedia and web-based approaches with the structured approach adopted for the development of a prototype
Module Learning Strategies
One lecture and a blocked 2-hour laboratory tutorial period each week.
The lecture will support the two hour lab sessions. The lab sessions will support the underlying knowledge and skills required to complete the module, and will be facilitated with booklets, course texts, and the internet Parts of the two hour slot will be used for independent resource based learning. This will include problem based learning where students will be set a specific problem that requires a solution to be found, working through a tutorial book or analysing a case study. Twice in the twelve week teaching block the session will be used as a surgery session for peer and self assessment to provide formative feedback and for guidance on assessment work.

Independent study will involve directed reading in order to extend knowledge in areas of the indicative content covered by the classroom teaching.
