You will study the collection of data and its transformation into information. How different types of Information Systems (IS) underpin the functions of an organisation. The structure of organisations and the significance of IS in the operational, tactical and strategic levels of business.
The information Systems resource needs to be managed like any other organisational resource. You will study the role of IS as a business resource and the need to manage and control it as part of an overall business strategy. You will encounter varied topics, for example: Strategic Information systems for Competitive Advantage; Network Computing: Discovery, Communication and Collaboration; Information Strategy and IT planning; Organisational Transformation; Accounting for IT; Managing System Security, Risk and Disaster Recovery; eCommerce; and Customer Relationship Management.

The module is essentially an academic one. However, you will experience a variety of learning environments, for example: One-hour lectures; One-hour tutorials, seminars and workshops; and one hour surgery sessions.
The lectures are used to deliver the academic and technical content of the module. The tutorials/seminars will help you put the academic material into its proper organisational and management context. The module is supported by electronically distributed learning material.
