The module will look at systems analysis and design.
An overview of Agile methodologies including Extreme Programming, dsdm, etc
Prototyping as a tool for user centred development
An overview of project management and risk assessment strategies that are needed to support design
HCI issues

Introduction to Databases:
- Introduction to the concept and use of a Database Management System
- Implementation of a prototype database management system to include queries, forms and reports to meet user requirement specification
Backup and recovery

Selection of DBMS, operating system, hardware
SQL; DML; DCL; DDL
Big Data concepts; Hadoop; Mongo; NOSQL; JSON; XML

Introduction to design of the frontends to Databases

Conversion of the logical design into a physical system (prototype), using an application development environment suitable for a SME

Group ASSIGNMENT length 6000 WORDS weighted at 100%.

which will consist of

Part 1 (33% weighting) - students go through the process of establishing a software development team, and explain and reflect on the processes. (Learning Outcome 1)

Part 2 (66% weighting) - The team established in part 1 analyses, designs implements, and documents a database related solution to support a typical organisation relevant to the student's award. (Learning Outcomes 2 and 3)
Module Learning Strategies
24 hours of lectures and 12 hours of practical sessions. In the practical session you will work through exercises to get hands-on experience of the principles taught in the lecture.
