Module Details
Module Learning Strategies
Students will receive 8 lectures at 2 per week for the first 4 weeks covering topics that will help them conduct their project such as project management for the project; proposal definition; literature searching; research tools and techniques; data gathering and analysis; documentation and presentation. The content of these lectures will only be assessed indirectly via the students performance in the project.
An important part of the learning strategy is your organisation of your literature search using both library catalogue facilities and Internet searching techniques. You will conduct other types of research, such as user interviewing and requirements elicitation, as necessary. You can seek advice from your supervisor on research methods and on planning and scheduling your activities. You will learn to evaluate critically the material you study in your researches as well as establishing the ethical basis of your research.
An important part of the learning strategy is the direct one-to-one supervision of your project by a supervisor. The independent learning for this module will include your keeping of a logbook, which will encourage you to reflect about the problems you are meeting and the ways in which you are solving them. This module covers four areas of investigative work: context and domain analysis, domain investigation, technical investigation and the critical appraisal of these.
