Module Indicative Content
1. Perspectives of multimedia databases
2. Interaction technologies e.g. speech, wearables, agents
3. New technologies in multimedia
4. Compression issues e.g. mpeg7
5. XML and associated multimedia technologies e.g. SVG and SMIL
Module Learning Strategies
Lectures will provide students with a broad theoretical overview of the core topics. These will be supplemented with on-line journal articles, web sites and practical session. The practical nature of the course will be emphasised by the provision of practical tutorial sessions each week. Support material will be provided.
Normally one hour lecture, one hour practical per week.
