Module Details
Module Resources
Software and hardware appropriate to the chosen project together with standard computing facilities.
Module Special Admissions Requirements
Passed one of the accepted Learning Tree Professional Certifications as listed in the Student Award Handbook or University equivalent.
Module Texts
Research papers and standard textbooks appropriate to the area of study.
Module Learning Strategies
Initially you should :
1. Identify the area of study;
2. Develop a plan including the assignment milestones, deliverables and development schedule;
3. Identify the resources needed.

Following this, the research and development needs to be carried out. Typically this should be based on the techniques and knowledge acquired from the Professional Certification, and also the Research Methods module, together with advice from an academic supervisor. The assignment report should be produced describing the achievements, techniques used and analytic aspects.The presentation will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the assignment report.
This module is delivered during the first University week and involves 4 hours lectures, plus individual meetings with the supervisor.
Module Indicative Content
The first part of the module is the study of a technical area in computing. A student needs to pass an accepted Learning Tree International Professional Certification, or University equivalent.

The second part of the module is University based. Students will typically produce an individual assignment, which is normally related to the Learning Tree Professional Certification, and usually work based. Students must attend a set University week, during which time they agree their assignment with an appointed supervisor and start their research. After the University week the students work at their own pace, in contact with their supervisor, submit the assignment and give a presentation at the University.

Alternatively, students may study University masters level equivalent modules which must be negotiated under a learning contract.

This module is studied in conjunction with Professional Computing Research Methods and together they form the Postgraduate Certificate Level.
Module Additional Assessment Details
An assignment report plus a presentation, which will be assessed by two academics.The report, including the literature review should be between 8,500 and 10,000 words in length.The assessment is 100% coursework. (Learning outcomes 1,2 and 3)

Where alternative University modules are used the appropriate assessment will apply as per the learning contract.
