The assessment is 100% coursework. Where alternative University modules are used the appropriate assessment will apply as per the learning contract. (Learning outcomes 1,2,3 and 4)
Module Resources
Software and hardware appropriate to the chosen project together with standard computing facilities.
Module Special Admissions Requirements
(These are in addition to the 4 courses passed for the Certificate stage)
Passed four courses from those in the accepted Learning Tree Professional Certifications as listed in the Student Award Handbook, or the equivalent e.g. four Learning Tree courses at the appropriate level and with appropriate content which is accepted and agreed by the University.
Cannot combine this module with
The same Learning Tree Certification title or courses as that studied for the Professional Certificate module.
Module Texts
Research papers and standard textbooks appropriate to the area of study.
Module Learning Strategies
Initially you should:
(a) Identify the area of study;
(b) Develop a plan including the assignment milestones, deliverables and development schedule;
(c) Identify the resources needed.
Following this the research and development needs to be carried out. Typically this should be based on the techniques and knowledge acquired from the Professional Certification courses studied, together with advice from an academic supervisor. The assignment report should be produced describing the achievements, techniques used and analytic aspects. The presentation will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the assignment report.
Delivery is during the University week involving a 1 hour seminar and individually arranged meetings with the supervisor.
Module Indicative Content
This module builds on the understanding developed during the Professional Certificate and Professional Computing Research Methods modules.
The first part of the module is normally studied with Learning Tree International. A student needs to have passed either
i) eight different Learning Tree International courses from those in the list of accepted Professional Certifications as listed in the current Student Award Handbook.
ii) eight different Learning Tree International courses which have been accepted by the University as a suitable combination.
iii) a University equivalent of a Professional Certification plus one accepted Learning Tree Professional Certification.
iv) the University equivalent of two Learning Tree Professional Certifications. (These include the requirements at the Certificate stage.)
The second part of the module is University based. The content of the assignment is individual, normally related to the Learning Tree Professional Certification courses, and usually work based. Students must attend part of a University Week, during which time they agree their assignment with an appointed supervisor and start their research. After the University week the students work at their own pace, in contact with their supervisor, submit the assignment and give a presentation at the University.
Alternatively, students may study University masters level equivalent modules which must be negotiated under a learning contract.
