Module Indicative Content
Introduction to Information Systems knowledge as an essential element assuring the competitiveness of contemporary organisations, managing global corporations, creating business value, and providing useful products and services to customers.
(1) Organisations, Management and the networked enterprise: Managing the "digital firm", Information Systems in the Enterprise and their place in the Organization, Management and Business Strategy.
(2) IT infrastructure (hardware and software assets) - Data Resources, Telecommunications, Networks, Internet and the new IT infrastructure,
(3) Management and organizational support systems for the contemporary enterprise, Managing knowledge and enhancing decision making,
(4) Quality assurance, control and security issues: System quality - software and data, Control environment and protection issues.
(5) Organizational structures and changes for the MIS provision: planned organizational change, business process reengineering and information systems development.
Module Additional Assessment Details
An Individual research paper (weighted at 70%) styled as a journal publication supported by an individual online presentation (weighted at 30%) assessing Learning Outcomes 1 to 4
Module Learning Strategies
The style of the module is based on a series of on-line sessions that present material, refer you to internal and external references and guide you in further study. You will be expected to follow these references and others of your own to build on the body of knowledge presented in the sessions.
Electronic learning strategies will be used extensively.
The 3 hours contact time will typically include provision of On-line, telephone and email support as necessary.
