Module Indicative Content
- Overview of Project Management as a concept, especially in relation to staff needs
- Overview and understanding of the underlying principles used in Project Management
- Tools such as PERT, CPA etc
- Use and assessment of an example Project Management Tool
- Quality standards, quality assessment
- The concepts and use of metrics
- Industrial and legal codes of practice relevant to the software development environment, including items such as BCS - Codes of Practice, health and safety, data protection
- Professional issues.

1. Use a Project Management Tool to plan a basic project
2. Describe Quality Improvement Programmes
3. Describe Metrics Improvement Programmes
4. Use all three of the above in a project environment
5. Use industrial standards and practices currently in use relevant to this course.

Module Learning Strategies
A series of Lectures will comprise of 12 hours contact time. In addition there will an additional 12 hours of large group seminars and invited lecturers looking at the application of these areas as real life examples. Finally there will be 12 hours of tutorials including hands on work with a project management tool and development of quality and project management skills in group environments.Lectures : 12 hours, Seminars and invited lectures : 12 hours, Tutorials/practicals :12 hrs.Within this module you will be developing common skills in 5. Treating others values, opinions and beliefs with respect10. Communicating in writing11. Participate in oral and non-verbal communication18. Use a range of thought processesThe directed study time of 44 hours will be used to investigate other tools applicable to the subject and the preparation for the assignment and exam.
